On 20th June 2026, the Institute of Explosives Engineers (IExpE) welcomed members to its annual Members Weekend at the historic De Vere Beaumont Estate in Windsor.
The weekend brought members together for a relaxed mix of networking, professional activities and social events, with plenty of opportunities to catch up with colleagues and make new connections.
The event began with a welcome from IExpE President Martyn Sime, followed by a lively quiz covering everything from general knowledge and music to animals and celebrities. Congratulations to the winning team, who achieved an impressive 99 out of 109 points!
Members then headed outside for an explosives detection dog demonstration organised by RFA Security Services. Rocket and Arnie demonstrated an Odour Identification Test and vehicle search, giving attendees an insight into how detection dogs are trained and used in operational environments.
After lunch, RAF personnel delivered a fascinating presentation on the Paveway IV precision-guided munition, highlighting the specialist training, preparation and strict safety procedures involved in handling military ordnance.
The afternoon took a more relaxed turn with a gin masterclass from Six O’Clock Gin. Members learned about the history of gin, distillation, botanicals and tonic pairings while sampling a selection of products.
The day finished with a drink’s reception, three-course dinner and musical bingo, followed by a DJ and disco. With plenty of singing, laughter and friendly competition, it was a fitting end to a memorable day.
IExpE would like to thank everyone who attended and helped make the 2026 Members Weekend such a success. The continued support and participation of members is greatly valued and remains an important part of the Institute’s strong community.
