The ESSG consists of the Corporate Members of the Institute of Explosives Engineers (IExpE). The Group is a collaborative body of government entities, industry and the explosives regulator enabling a sustained and prosperous UK energetics sector in support of Defence’s strategic objectives.
Explosives Engineering is the official Journal of the Institute of Explosives Engineers (IExpE), reaching a membership-based audience of around 2000 highly qualified engineers and industry professionals.
The knowledge and understanding I gained through being an Institute member has widened my perception and allowed me to solve problems in one area, using things that are standard practice elsewhere, but unheard of where the problem lay. IExpE has also allowed me to progress through Professional Registration to become a Chartered Engineer. Having gained so much through Institute membership I now aim to ‘give back’ as much as I can helping others and sharing my understanding.
Being part of IExpE has broadened my knowledge and perspective of ammunition and explosive through interactions with the Institute and access to its professional resources. I value how this supports my continued learning and development as an ammunition and explosive engineer.
Becoming a Chartered Engineer and Fellow of the Institute of Explosives Engineers was a proud milestone, recognising many years of technical development, leadership and professional contribution. Equally rewarding has been helping to develop apprenticeship standards and pathways for future explosives engineers. Working with industry partners and IExpE to shape the next generation of engineering talent has been the most impactful and lasting contribution of my career.
IExpE gives me a real sense of belonging to a much wider explosives community. Whether its networking at Institute events, learning about unfamiliar areas such as the fireworks industry and the use of explosives in oil drilling, or working with colleagues from IExpE and IFSE to interview Chartered Engineer applicants, membership continually broadens both my professional knowledge and my network.
