Route

An applicant’s educational background and work experience will determine the route of application.

There are two routes, the standard route or the Individual route.

Standard Route
CEng exemplifying qualifications for the Standard Route are:

  1. An accredited Bachelor’s degree with honours in engineering or technology, plus either an appropriate Master’s degree or Engineering Doctorate (EngD) accredited by a professional engineering institution, or appropriate further learning to Masters level: or
  2. An accredited integrated MEng degree.

IEng exemplifying qualifications for the Standard Route are:

  1. An accredited Bachelors or Honours degree in engineering or technology; or
  2. An accredited HNC or HND in engineering or technology (for programmes started before Sept 1999); or
  3. An HNC or HND started after Sept 1999 (but before Sept 2010 in the case of the HNC) or a Foundation Degree in engineering or technology, plus appropriate further learning to degree level; or
  4. An NVQ4 or SVQ4 that has been approved for the purpose by a licensed engineering institution, plus appropriate further learning to degree level.

Applicants accepted via the Standard Route will be invited to attend a Professional Review Interview (PRI).

Applicants seeking registration as an Engineering Technician (EngTech) follow a similar process; however, the registration decision is usually based on the submitted evidence and may not require an interview.

Not sure if your qualification is accredited by the Engineering Council?
You are able to check if your qualification is accredited via the Engineering Council degree search.

The Review Panel will request the information below to demonstrate how you meet the educational requirements.

  1. Further Learning Report (e.g. qualifications relevant to your domain);
  2. Technical Report, based on your experience, and demonstrating your knowledge and understanding of engineering principles
